To the New York City Fire Department
You
are the light that shines in the dark.
In all our souls you've left your mark.
When a lot of people have given up hope,
You trudge along, you somehow cope.
I can't imagine what you're going through,
I admire your strength and courage too.
Who knew that day we were in a war?
The innocent comrades we lost and adored.
I can't begin to tell you how hard we cried,
And you can't begin to tell me how hard you've tried.
To find just a glimmer of hope to carry on.
You are all so wonderful, brave and strong.
You are all heroes in all of our eyes.
From the unknowing souls, to the ever so wise.
So carry on dear souls, do your best
That's all we can ask, you do the rest.
We will never forget you or your good deed,
The wonderful heroes of the N.Y.F.D.
