(1010 WINS) (NEW YORK) For the first time since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, a New York City firefighter has died on duty.

James J. O'Shea, 41, died Saturday evening from a heart attack after feeling ill battling a blaze in Queens, a fire department spokesman said.

He refused medical attention at the scene and went home, where he died.

O'Shea, who worked for Ladder Co. 127 in Queens, is survived by his wife and two children. A funeral was planned for Friday; details were pending.

On Sept. 11, 343 New York Fire Department officers died in the collapse of the twin towers. The department has about 11,000 members.
